It is one of the formations of the Northern Technical University, and one of the first technical institutes that was established in the Technical Education Authority in 1979 in the name of the Hawija Agricultural Technical Institute, which belongs to the Institution of Technical Institutes. The institute was established in 1980 under the name of the Hawija Agricultural Institute and with four agricultural departments until (1985), when the Department of Office Management was transferred to it. From the Kirkuk Technical Institute and aims to graduate technical middle cadres qualified to work in state institutions and the private sector in the engineering, administrative and agricultural disciplines. In 1988, the technological departments were opened, and after 2002 the name of the institute was changed to the Hawija Technical Institute, which belongs to the Technical Education Authority, and the institute is located in the southwest city of Kirkuk in the district of Hawija. In 2014, and after the division of the Technical Education Authority into four technical universities, the institute became owned by the Northern Technical University.

6- Taking care of students and instilling the concepts of loyalty to the homeland and working to achieve their hopes and aspirations in a sound scientific environment.
7- Supporting state institutions for training and development in order to create a scientific, research, and applied environment to serve these institutions and thus activate the wheel of the country’s development.
